“Everything was different at university.”

Seraina

Seraina, Biochemistry Bachelor’s student

“As a high school student I never had a problem with exams. I was used to passing them with ease without much preparation. But everything suddenly changed at university. In my second semester, I failed two important subjects: Math and chemistry. Afterwards I didn’t have the guts to simply retake the tests, so I decided to repeat both courses the following year. During this time I studied a lot and did as many practice exercises as possible. But even though I passed the tests, the fear remained. It’s unbelievably frustrating: You spend two intense weeks studying, turn up to the exam totally nervous and suddenly don’t remember anything anymore. Unfortunately I haven’t found any methods to combat this yet. My parents are very understanding, though, and support me wherever they can. I could also imagine visiting a mental performance coach in the future in order to be able to better deal with the stress I feel about exams.”
